| Abstract(in English) | The use of electric household appliances and IT (information technology) are believed to increase the QOL and well-being of the people. The positive effect of electronic devices for elderly people would be stronger than younger generations because those equipments were assumed to compensate for the decline in functional ability in elderly. The purpose of this study was to clarify the actual condition of the use of the IT and electronic devices and explore factors which influence the use of those in elderly. Also, evaluate the effect of the use to the psychological well-being. We investigated 99 oldest-old over 87-year-old in Tokyo. In addition to the social background, basic ADL and instrumental ADL, cognitive function, function of vision and hearing, and psychological well-being, we asked the actual use of the 10 items of representative electric devices. As first, sex, educational level, and living condition had influence on the use of the devices. Secondly, we found the use of electric devices had influence on the psychological well-being, much more than ADL and IADL. Though few people use electronic devices, this study showed that, the use of these equipments influence to the psychological well-being of oldest-old. |
