Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a content delivery method with both IP multicast transmission and on-demand transmission on a cellular phone network. In our method, a server application should insert redundant data in the multicast transmission data so that a client can completely decode its original content even if the client cannot receive a part of multicast transmission data because of data packet losses. Since the server application inserts redundant data, the data transmission quantity for the multicast transmission increases. On the other hand, since the server application updates the redundancy dynamically based on the data packet loss information received from clients, the data transmission quantity for the on-demand transmission decreases. As a result, our method can decrease the total of data transmission quantity on the cellular phone network. Moreover, we show the effectiveness of our method by a simulation experiment.
