A Laboratory Test Result of Frequency Domain Channel Equalizer for Multipath Interference outside the Guard Interval of OFDM

Abstract(in English) DTTB (Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting) which adopts OFDM method enables SFN (Single Frequency Network) where transmitters broadcast in a same frequency. This is especially true in an SFN service, which suffers from reception degradation caused by multipath interference due to waves from SFN transmitting stations other than the desired one that arrives outside the guard interval (GI). To overcome this problem, we are developing a technology that equalizes multipath outside the GI at the receiver. We recently built a trial system that performs a FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) over multiple symbol durations of OFDM collectively, to convert it into a frequency domain signal, to equalize multipath outside the GI in the frequency domain, rather than in the time domain as the conventional method does. This enables equalization of an advance wave outside the GI, in the same way as is done for a delayed wave. A laboratory test result verified the basic performance of the proposal method.
