Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, the Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology has been drawn great attentions as a key technology of realizing wide-band and high-speed communications by multiplexing multiple optical signals using different wavelengths into a single optical fiber. For HORNET (Hybrid Optoelectronic Ring NETwork), a WDM-based ring network for next generation metropolitan area networks, this paper formulates the node configuration problem of finding numbers of additional transmitters and receivers to each node and of assigning a wavelength to each receiver, and presents its heuristic algorithm. A node in HORNET is equipped with fast-tunable transmitters and wavelength-fixed receivers. To maximize its performance, the number of transmitters/receivers should be optimized for each node, depending on the number of available wavelengths. in addition to the optimal wavelength assignment, such that the number of connections established simultaneously is maximized. The proposal of this paper is verified through simulations, where the performance is compared with the conventional method of no additional equipment assignments.
