Abstract(in English) MPLS (MultiProtocol Label Switching) is a suitable technology for backbone networks. MPLS can easily provide bandwidth reservations because of its virtual circuit. In order to design MPLS network with bandwidth reservations, there are two requirements: to minimize necessary link capacity, and to minimize control loads of band-width reservations. However, there is a tradeoff between these two requirements, so that we cannot simultaneously optimize these two requirements. Moreover, there is no research about this tradeoff, therefore we have no suitable reservation methods for every MPLS network, which has different performance requirements. In this thesis, I propose and evaluate a hybrid reservation method called "overflow reservation method" that reserves bandwidth statically, and reserves bandwidth in a way of on-demand when the statically allocated bandwidth is full. The proposed method can be applied to every MPLS network by changing the amount of the statically allocated bandwidth. Then, we can analyze the tradeoff. In this way, we can easily design MPLS networks.
