Abstract(in English) A novel scheme is proposed for lensed fibers with high NA. We found for the first time that the NA of conventional lensed fibers can be increased dramatically by coating a high-index layer onto the fiber endface. The lensed fiber coated with an amorphous-silicon layer was measured to focus a 10-μm-diameter beam in a single-mode fiber into a beam spot with a mode field diameter as small as 1.84μm at the wavelength of 1.55μm.
