An Error Diffusion Algorithm with Data-dependent Pre-filtering

Abstract(in English) In the case of display or printing of gray scale images at devices, which limited tone levels, halftoning technique is used commonly. Error Diffusion (ED) is an efficient halftoning algorithm. However, it is well known that the worm is appeared at the smooth region and the constant value region is appeared in the edge region. An error diffusion algorithm with data-dependent pre-filtering we have proposed, prevents the appearance of the constant value region. However the method did not take the worm into account. In this paper, we propose the worm suppression method by adding the noise at only smooth regions based on data-dependent processing. Both constant value region problem and worm problem can be solved simultaneously by this algorithm.
