Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To transmit and display extra high quality movies using image container of 4096×2160 pixel resolution and 36 bit color, new super-high-definition (SHD) movie distribution system was developed. The total bit rate of an SHD movie with 24 frames per second is 7.6Gbps, and should be compressed to 15:1 in order to transmit via Gigabit IP networks. The system is based on JPEG2000 coding technology. The coded streams of 500Mbps can be continuously transmitted from the server to the real-time decoder, and decompressed SHD movies are projected onto a screen. Furthermore, in order to distribute the digital cinema contents to many users, scalable image coding is investigated. By using the proposed scalable coding, various types of SNR, spatial and temporal resolution images can be obtained from a coded stream.
