Abstract(in English) This paper presents fast motion estimation algorithms which are implemented into a fast software MPEG-2 encoder "NEXTREEM-2", and also presents video applications using "NEXTREEM-2". New fast motion estimation algorithms which do not degrade coding efficiency are incorporated into "NEXTREEM-2". With "NEXTREEM-2", real-time encoding with the same video quality as hardware encoders is achieved on 1.8GHz Pentium4 PC. New video applications are available by using "NEXTREEM-2". Real-Time DVD video creation for video data which is recorded by a digital video camera, which was conventionally achieved by non real-time processing, is achieved with only software modules. Real-Time DVD video creation for video data which is recorded by an HDTV camera is also achieved with only software modules.
