Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a new information retrieval and navigation system that makes use of behavioral descriptions in manuals. Conventional systems for usual documents use keywords in their contents and form word vectors to retrieve the documents. In manual retrieval and navigation, however, the user's behavior is important, because purpose of the retrieval and the navigation depends on this behavior. The behavior is described by a verb and the thing that is affected by the behavior is a noun as an object. The proposed system makes use of the verbs and the objects and forms word matrices to retrieve the manual sections, accordingly. This system also provides two navigation methods. Starting from a retrieved section, one navigation method suggests other sections that have related, broader or narrower concept. The other method uses operation sequences based on HMM to guide users. Experiments, which apply this system to a programming manual of NC machine tool, show better performance than the conventional one.
