Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a new optical access network architecture that differs from those of conventional point-to-point (PP) and passive optical networks (PON) The proposed architecture uses optical switching modules (OSMs) that connect an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) to Optical Network Units (ONUs) virtually in point to point, so that it can exhibit the merits of PP and PON, and solve their demerits. OSM contains optical packet switching functions that can reroute optical packets based on electrical controls. This paper points out that the architecture fits the Multi-Point Control Protocol (MPCP) defined in IEEE 802.3 ah. This paper also evaluates transmission distances between OLT and ONUs, and considers a network synchronization scheme and discovery mechanism for using MPCP.
