Abstract(in English) At present, the image recognition technique is required in various fields. However, in the field of image processing, it is difficult to treat a large amount of raw data in real-time. To solve this problem, a data-reduction method, which realizes high-speed image compression, is proposed. In this research, we design an image compression circuit based on the multi-resolution expression of the Haar wavelet transform and used it as preprocessor in an image recognition system. This circuit is implemented in an FPGA on our HwModule board. As a result, real-time image compression was completed for an image with 640×480 pixels in 20.499ms.
