Ultracompact Er-doped bismuthate glass waveguide amplifier

Abstract(in English) Bismuthate glass has the ability of highly doping Er-ions and wide-band emission spectrum, so advantageous to get compact and high performance waveguide amplifier. We developed the fabrication process of low propagation loss waveguide, and achieved 0.13dB/cm propagation loss waveguide as low as silica glass waveguide. Furthermore we designed ultracompact lightwave circuit with low bending loss, so we achieved 1-cm-size Er-doped wavaguide amplifier. The 1-cm-size Er-doped waveguide amplifier has excellent features at whole C-band, gain value is higher than 15dB with noise figure less than 8dB and gain flatness is less than 2dB and output power is higher than 12dBm.
