Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) As the use of optical transmission technology is expanding, the technology of signal processing in the optical region will also become important. Because of high speed capability and bit rate transparency, all-optical signal processing is attractive for implementing wavelength conversion and signal regeneration without costly optical-electrical-optical conversion. In this report, we propose a new operating scheme of the Symmetric Mach-Zehnder all-optical switch for bit-rate-transparent NRZ wavelength conversion. We experimentally demonstrate error-free operation in the range from 2.5 to 42 Gb/s without changing other operating conditions. We also show that the output of the wavelength converter is useful for long-reach transmission.
