Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) WDM optical fiber communication systems using EDFA amplifiers require variable gain equalizers, which compensate time varying optical signal level variations among the channels in the band, caused by optical input signal intensity changes. This paper presents a new optical gain equalizer consisting of two etalon resonators. It is capable of controlling the gain slope in the ± directions at the band center, by changing the etalon gaps by ±ΔL simultaneously. The structure of the equalizer is simple, easily constructed and polarization independent. Sufficient gain slope changes by low driving voltages are obtained with low insertion loss.
