Abstract(in English) One of the requirements for AWG, which is playing an important role as Mux/Demux in the D-WDM systems, is a temperature independency i.e. "athermal" which needs no electric power supply. In order to realize this requirement, we devised a novel principle of athermal AWG and fabricated 100GHz-32ch athermal AWG modules. We have confirmed that the temperature dependency of center wavelength for this athermal AWG was less than ±0.01nm under ambient temperature from 0 to 70℃, and other optical characteristics were stable with respect to temperature change. Furthermore we carried out the reliability test in conformity with TelcordiaGR-1209, 1221, and also have confirmed that this athermal AWG module had a high reliability.
