Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Measuring the quality of networks is important to guarantee the communication quality and to realize the appropriate network management on the Internet. Some metrics, for instance, throughput, latency and link capacity can be obtained by sophisticated passive and active measurement tools. In addition, measuring the available bandwidth between end hosts has been studied in these days. This paper shows an accurate, low-latency and light-load measurement scheme for end-to-end available bandwidth. We implemented the protocol designed for this measurement on PC and the effectiveness of our proposal was proved by experiments. As an application of proposed measurement, two control methods of video delivery on the Internet are presented. One is for the adaptation to fluctuation of the bandwidth and the other aims to keep the original quality of the content in CDN(Content Delivery Networks) by switching the source server.
