Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a new train communication system using Graded-index (GI) leaky plastic optical fiber (POF) as a method in order to communicate between trains and the ground. In this system, Laser Diode (LD) is connected to GI-POF, that contains scatterers in its core. The light which enters from LD into the leaky fiber is scattered by the scatterers, and consequently, the light leaks out from the fiber. The leaked light is received by an optical receiver which is set under each train. Also, in this system, the continuous communication can be done by connecting LD with the leaky fiber. Moreover, in this system, if the communication between trains and the ground is assumed, the space under the trains is dark shadowed by a train itself. Therefore, the influence of ambient light noise can be decreased, and the high quality communication between them can be done at high speed. The system performance was shown by experimental results and computer simulation results.
