Towards the realization of dispersion compensators using photonic crystals

Abstract(in English) Coupled-defect-type photonic crystals (PhCs) were studied. One-dimensional film-type PhCs composed of SiO_2 and Ta_2O_5 showed following features by optimizing their structures. 1) The structure has a transparent window with high and flat transmittance. 2) The delay time spectrum has a smoothed shape and a large delay time difference within the window, which results in a large group delay dispersion. Furthermore, The deterioration of 40Gbps NRZ light signal can be compensated by using these PhCs, which leads to the realization of the dispersion compensators.
