Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) These days in the area of teaching reading, the interactive model of reading is supported by many researchers. In this model, reading is defined as interactions between topdown and bottom-up processing. However, not a few researchers insist that Japanese EFL students should be rather activated their bottom-up processing. That is because they are still developing readers and their reading speed is very limited, therefore, they can not make use of redundancy or contextual clues, which are supposed to be stored in the short-term memory. The purpose of this study is to develop teaching materials which enable learners to automatize their bottom-up processing at a phrase level, and to design CAI software for them to use.
