Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The retina is an analog interlligent sensing system which has an extremely low power dissipation. We measured electrical properties of a single neuron which constitues the retinal circuit using the perforated patch recording technique. The membrane conductance of bipolar cell and horizontal cell isolated enzymatically from the carp retina was less than 1 nS in the physiologically operating voltage range(-2OmV - -6OmV).The small membrane conductance is suitable for retinal neurons to produce significant size of electrical responses by a synaptic current which is as small as several tens of pA.
