Cross-layer QoS Control Scheme for Video Streaming over Wireless LAN

Abstract(in English) Wireless video streaming will be one of popular applications in both home and mobile network. There are some error and/or rate control methods in PHY/MAC layer to improve lossy transmission over wireless network due to such as phasing and interference. But its effect is limited and affects end-to-end congestion control and makes its congestion status worse. This paper shows the wireless QoS control scheme using cross-layer manner, called WiQ-X, which analyzes wireless PHY/MAC status and utilizes the analyzed result for congestion control between a sender and a receiver. WiQ-X was tested on Wireless LAN (802.11a) environment, and the result shows that WiQ-X gives more stable video streaming even in phasing situation than previous wireless-aware congestion control method.
