A Link Quality-based Routing Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

Abstract(in English) This report proposes a routing protocol named LQHR in wireless ad hoc networks; it takes into consideration link quality such as received signal levels and SNR between adjacent nodes. In LQHR, each node maintains a routing table by using OLSR, which is a proactive routing protocol. When a communication request occurs at a node, it finds a route on the basis of the link quality. We implemated LQHR in an experiment system, where notebook PCs were arranged on the same floor of a building, and audio-video streams were transmitted. To evaluate the effectiveness of LQHR, we compared the performance of LQHR with that of the standard OLSR. As a result, we found that LQHR provides smaller transmission delay and loss rates of audio and video than the standard OLSR and that the former selected better quality routes than the latter.
