Improving End-to-End Throughput in Multi-path TCP Communication and its Evaluation on Wireless LAN

Abstract(in English) Recently, it is desired to realize fast and stable wireless communication aggregating multiple wireless links, because a single wireless link is slow and un-stable. But, it is also known that TCP cannot obtain sufficient throughput in such multi-path communication environments, especially in wireless network links, because of out of order data delivery and data transfer stall. To improve performance of multi-path communication, we have been proposed multi-path TCP communication method with a distributed data transfer technique, which is called ATLB (end-to-end Arrival Time aware Load-Balancing). We have shown that, in simulation results, the ATLB greatly improves end-to-end throughput, especially in heterogeneous environments, where quality of each path differs. In this paper, we show performance evaluation of the ATLB test-bed in wireless LAN environments. Our ATLB test-bed realized 1.5-3.5 times higher throughput than conventional IP level data distribution method. And we certified the ATLB can follow bandwidth dynamics and link-down/ link-up in wireless LAN.
