Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | This paper proposes a QoS control method for a multiple-bit-rate video streaming service, which is suitable for improving the quality that all users perceive. First, we propose a quality estimation model that properly represents users' perceptions of distributed video signals whose quality is time-variant due to the dynamic bit-rate control. The factors affecting the users' perceptions were considered based on a subjective quality experiment. The proposed model enables the accuracy of estimating overall subjective quality to be improved compared with a model that averages segmental quality. The estimation error of the proposed model is almost equivalent to the statistical reliability of a subjective score. Second, we propose a QoS control method considering the above subjective quality characteristics. Specifically, it can improve users' perceptual quality by allocating the minimum bandwidth for each video flow and reducing the usable bandwidth of flows whose bit-rate fell in the past when a network is congested. Third, we evaluated the proposed QoS control method by simulation. We found that it improved quality, i.e., the average quality was improved for all users. Finally, we discuss guidelines for quality design/management for a multiple-bit-rate video streaming service. |
