Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report analyzes the optimal TCP/IP packet length for mobile communications, with the aim of achieving high-efficiency TCP/IP transmission. At first, a new two-state Markov model of a packet error is derived on the basis of the statistical model of CIR in the mobile radio environments. Applying the Markov model to both the uplink and the downlink yields a four-state joint Markov model. With Go-Back-N ARQ and Selective Repeat ARQ as a protocol, an analysis based on the joint Markov model clarifies the effect of the packet length on the TCP/IP throughput, which also includes the effect of TCP/IP overhead efficiency, and obtains the Optimal TCP/IP packet length to maximize the throughput at an average CIR. Numerical examples of the optimal throughput affected by the overhead, RTT, the numbers of desired and interfering signals, and the maximum Doppler frequency are shown.
