Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recognition rates of facial expressions on the three basic expression's photographs (smile, anger, sadness) with three kinds of view (front, quarter, profile), which were shot simultaneously, were investigated by an experiment. For the classification tasks discriminating 3 basic facial expression's categories, the recognition rates were very high (70-100%). Congruent recognition rates of the basic facial expression's category between the each pair of angle were more than 70%. For more precise classification tasks as discriminating 7categories under the 3 basic categories, however, the congruent recognition rates were about 25% between the each angle. This result means that we might recognize a facial expression as different meaning when we see the expression from different views.
