Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In text-based chat communication, message senders can wait for others' replies for a while. However, they can not wait for a long time. They will be unpleasant if the waiting time is longer than their expected time, and they can hardly wait for others' reply if still longer. In this paper, we propose an input status monitoring method and a pseudo reply method to keep the smooth communication, and we consider timing to show the input status and the pseudo reply. These two methods were evaluated experimentally by comparing with the simple text-based chat system which only exchanges the participants' messages. The result showed that showing an input status in senders' expected time reduces their unpleasant feeling. Furthermore, showing a pseudo reply after their expected time but before they give up waiting for reply can make the senders wait for a long time.
