Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper we propose an approach using a concept of "face plane" calculated with a facial distance image. Generally, a definition of a front face is ambiguous, and there are some approaches to define it specifically. First, we propose a definition of a front face based on the face plane. Our definition of a front face has an advantage that it does not need to extract facial parts. Next, we try to recognize facial expressions by using facial distance images normalized with the front face. In this experiment we use displacement vectors obtained with a facial expression change. the experiment using facial distance images(25 persons; 4 kinds of expressions) shows an effectiveness of our approach. In addition, we show a facial expression recognition method using a density of crossing points on the face plane.
