Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Mobile videophones are expected to be very useful for distant signed language communications. The devices have usually small displays around two inches. The size could affect the accessibility to the signed language information. We conducted two experiments to investigate signed language perception via mobile videophones under the condition of small display sizes of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6inches : (1) subjective intelligibility test of signed language sentences, and (2) subjective preference test on the size of display. The results show that the intelligibility and preference are decreasing significantly at display sizes smaller than 2inches.
