Abstract(in English) This paper investigates the functions of questions in task-oriented dialogues, by analyzing their sequential positions. The analysis shows the following facts; i) the functions of questions are different depending on their sequential positions, ii) Yes-No questions are used as a device for sharing local information that is necessary to proceed dialogues according to the dialogue development, iii) WH-questions are used to share information that is predetermined to be indispensable for achieving tasks. Based on the facts above, we can conclude that dialogue participants are careful with their choices between Yes-No questions and WH-questions according to the stage of dialogue development.
