Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report experimentally studies audio-video transmission in a wireless ad-hoc network. An audio stream and a video stream are transmitted along two different paths ; we call this method multipath transmission. Quality of the transmitted audio stream and that of the video one are assessed in terms of media unit(MU) loss and media synchronization ; we also compare the quality of the multipath transmission to that of the conventional single path transmission. We constructed a wireless ad-hoc network testbed including five laptop PCs. Each laptop PC is equipped with an IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN card. To prevent interference caused by human movement and other wireless systems, we disabled the antennas on the wireless LAN cards and connected them to variable attenuators through dividers/combiners and coaxial cables. We then evaluated the quality of the audio and video streams when the signal-to-noise ratio is 10dB or 7dB at the destination node. The experimental results show that the multipath audio-video transmission is effective in achieving lower MU loss and excellent media synchronization quality as compared with the single path transmission.
