Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Stimulating olfaction is considered to be effective for VR contents that provide the user with high-quality presence. We have been developing a novel method of delivering smells to the nose: projection-based olfactory display by using an air cannon. In order to synchronize the scene of audio-visual contents and the presented smell, we have to control the speed of the launched vortex ring so that the smell reaches the nose at the desired timing. We conducted an experiment to examine how parameters of an air cannon's action affect the velocity of vortex rings.
