Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have been studying a distributed haptic museum, which is a distributed virtual museum with touchable exhibits and uses haptic media as well as audio and visual media. The haptic museum lets multiple users such as visitors, presenters, researchers, and curators access touchable exhibits through the Internet, touch the exhibited objects by using haptic interface devices, and watch/listen to a presentation from an avatar acting as a presenter. It also enables viewpoint movement (left rotation, right rotation, forward, backward, left, right, upward, and downward) and zooming in/out for each object. This report presents survey results of exhibition planners such as curators and researchers in various types of museums and art galleries by making presentations with exhibited objects made so far. We visited fourteen museums and discussed with eighteen exhibition planners. This report studies the availability and directionality of the distributed haptic museum based on these discussions about the concept, haptic interface device, usage, contents, and so on.
