Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes a method for recognizing on-line handwritten patterns mixed of text and formulas. Most of the text or formula recognition systems premise that input patterns are either text or formula. Their mixed input occurs, however, so that we must consider the recognition of their mixed patterns. Our method recognizes them based on the text recognition method by evaluating every formula as a single character in the Japanese grammar. The method has no problem to pure text since it is based on the text recognition originally. Moreover, it can accept a single formula by treating it as text of a single character.
