Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been considered difficult for optical isolators to be integrated with semiconductor laser diodes, because they require nonreciprocity of magneto-optical materials such as ferrimagnetic garnets. However, optical isolators are indispensable for stable operation of semiconductor laser diodes and robust operation of highly functional photonic integrated circuits with many optical devices cascaded. We have proposed "TE mode waveguide optical isolators based on the nonreciprocal loss shift", which are composed of semiconductor optical amplifiers and ferromagnetic metals, and recently demonstrated a nonreciprocal loss shift of 14.7dB/mm at 1550nm, for the first time.
