Abstract(in English) We study a short-cavity DBR laser to realize a fast wavelength tunable source as a key componet for the next generation photonic networks. We first propose an active DBR mirror as a way of compensating for optical loss during tuning operations and we showed that the new structure provides loss compensation while maintaining efficiency of tuning. A short-cavity DBR laser with a gain region length L_ of 35・m provided continuous wavelength tuning as wide as 4.8nm. Then we fabricated a monolithically integrated 6-ch short-cavity DBR laser array, which covered a wavelength range of 35nm. When we applied a mode-hop control technique by precise grating formation, the laser array achieved 21-nm continuous tuing.
