Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Transmission mechanisms for simple 90° bends in waveguides in square-lattice-of-pillars photonic crystals were investigated. A 90° bend in a missing-pillar line-defect waveguide efficiently transmits guided wave when the Bloch wave-vector of the guided wave equals a particular value determined by the frequency and the refractive index of the dielectric surrounding the pillars. For a 90° bend in a slightly-thinner-pillars line-defect waveguide, transmission is most efficient when the Bloch wave vector is close to that of the Brillouin zone boundary. Both waveguide bends exhibit large tolerances of Bloch wave-vectors for efficient transmission, which enables a bend in a waveguide with intermediate-diameter defect pillars to efficiently transmit guided waves under a wide range of Bloch wave vectors.
