Abstract(in English) An interferometric optical isolator, employing a nonreciprocal phase shift, with distinct layer structures is proposed. The nonreciprocal phase shift occurs in TM modes that travel in magneto-optic waveguides in which magnetization is aligned transverse to the light propagation direction in the film plane. Because the traveling light waves undergo the distinct nonreciprocal phase shift in the two arms of the interferometer, the nonreciprocal characteristics can be achieved in a unidirectional external magnetic field. The interferometric optical isolator was designed at a wavelength of 1.55 μm, in which one of the arms in the interferometer had a HfO_2 cladding layer. Characteristics of the fabricated device are discussed.
