Abstract(in English) A fast tunable optical filter is the key device for achieving packet-by-packet selection of different wavelength optical packets in wavelength-division multiplexed systems. In this paper, we propose a fast tunable optical filter using apodized sampled gratings (ASGs), which can ahieved required filter characteristics with low cost. A sampled grating (SG) structure that exhibits a comb-like filter response is adopted to obtain a wide tuning range. We apply apodization to the SG to achieve a high extinction ratio by sidelobe suppression. We fabricated the fast tunable optical filter using an InGaAsP/InP deep-ridge waveguide with vertical-groove surface grating.
