Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In spite of the information processing delays (e.g., 80-130 ms for human brain) in the visual pathways, the experimentally observed high performance of the smooth pursuit eye movements (SPEMs) cannot be achieved solely with standard negative feedback methods based on visual error signals. Under such delayed information processing, some form of predictive control must take place. The purpose of this article is to extend a recently proposed a predictive control model for SPEMS by taking neurophysiological findings of MSTd and MSTl neurons into account. The extended model demonstrates zelo-lag tracking of a sinusoidal signal given adaptability by spike-timing-dependent plasticity. This model further explains a couple of conumdrums about the functions of MSTd and MSTl neurons.
