Field Experiments on Fast Sector Selection Using Hybrid ARQ in Forward Link VSF-Spread OFDM Broadband Wireless Access

Abstract(in English) This paper investigates an effect of Fast Sector Selection (FSS) considering time-varying shadowing variations in addition to the instantaneous fading variations in the forward link using the hybrid ARQ in MAC layer by the implemented Spread OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) transceiver with 100-MHz bandwidth. The field experimental results elucidated that for RT (Real Time) type traffic data with the strict delay requirement, FSS with the sector selection interval of 5 msec was effectual especially when the shadowing variation speed is high such that line of sight and non-line of sight conditions intermittently occur. Consequently, it was shown that FSS with the sector selection interval of 5 msec could reduce the required average received signal power at the residual average packet error rate of 10-3 by approximately 2dB and 1dB compared to slow sector selection with the selection interval of 100 msec when the number of maximum retransmission in ARQ, M, is 0 and 1, respectively.
