Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Wireless communications is only a means to realize the ultimate goal of communications with "whenever, wherever and whomever." We have been so far making every effort on research and development of wireless technologies with "higher data rates and higher reliabilities, " and as a result, we are now winning the end of "the twentieth century-type." Researches on wireless technologies with much higher data rates and higher reliabilities are still being done, but they are based just on combinations of CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and MIMO (Multiple Input/Multiple Output), all of which were born in the twentieth century, and they are located at a linearly extrapolated line of the twentieth century-type wireless communication techniques. Main players in the twentieth century-type wireless communications were men, and looking at the physical scale of the source/destination, it has the dimension of "meters." Nowadays, ubiquitous communications networks have been drawing much attention and they change the main players of communications from men to devices. It means that they also change the physical scale of the source/destination from "meters" to "micrometers" and "nanometers." In my talk, regarding the wireless communications with the physical scale shrinkage of source/destination as "the twenty-first century-type wireless communications, " I will discuss what is important, difficult and interesting there and what research targets are.
