Abstract(in English) | The impacts of distributed Raman amplification (DRA) technologies upon long-haul and large-capacity transmission systems are described in this paper. We show the features and trend of the technologies, which technologies are able to offer us a significant enhancement of SNR, the basic configuration of our proposed DRA system (DRA/EDFA hybrid configuration), and the safety aspects on high pump power. We also shows in detail the optical SNR improvements as the merits of the DRA systems, transmission fiber (DSF and SMF) dependence characteristics of the improvements, and the degrees of advantage of DSF over SMF (~2-3dB). Further, high Raman gains and high-performance transmission characteristics have been confirmed in the field experiments employing the L-band WDM signals over DSF. |
