Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We are studying the tuning method of transmission characteristics of an optical fiber using a long period fiber grating (LPFG) that higher or lower refractive index mediums is partially loaded outside the cladding. It was clarified that higher refractive index medium was effective for loss tuning at resonant dips. In this paper, we propose the new device that an uniformly bent LPFG is worked as a variable optical attenuator (VOA). The loss is easily tuned by changing its bending curvature without loading mediums. The transmission characteristics were experimentally evaluated.
