Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we survey the recent progress of GMPLS (Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching) technology and the future trends, which is emerging as control technology of the next-generation photonic network. First, we outline the background for which GMPLS is required, the merit which GMPLS offers and its fundamental operation. Then, we describe the latest activities of interoperability demonstration and international standardization. Recently, computational grid systems are attracting attention as new application of a photonic network. The grid offers plenty of computing power by connecting geographically distributed computer resources. We describe the requirements of a photonic network for a grid system, and explore possible future deployment of photonic network control technology.
