Abstract(in English) This paper presents a numerical simulation of the Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) caused by shear modes in single-mode fibers. The BGS can be observed in a fiber with a small core radius and a high refractive-index difference between core and cladding, although the peak Brillouin gain by shear modes is much lower than that by longitudinal modes. The simulated and measured BGS were in good agreement. We revealed the relation between the BGS and the waveguide properties of fiber.
