Thin Cholesteric LCD for Contactless IC Cards

Abstract(in English) A thin cholesteric LCD has been developed for contactless IC cards. Panel thickness is 0.25mm. By using cholesteric LC, the panel features bistability without field, ultra low power consumption that enables batteryless operation, and good readability. In addition, heat and pressure durability required for card manufacturing, wide storage temperature range from -20℃ to 90℃, and low operating voltage of 14V have been achieved by improving panel structure and materials.
