Influence of Sustaining Electrode Structures of Surface-Discharge PDPs on Their Emission Characteristics

Abstract(in English) The radiation intensity, a radiation distribution, and sustaining time of ultraviolet rays have a direct influence on the performance of PDPs. It is thought that sustaining electrode structures have a great influence to the radiation of ultraviolet rays. The relationships between the electrode structures and the discharge characteristics have not clarified yet. Therefore, we designed and fabricated various kinds of sustaining-electrode structures and measured and compared voltage-luminance characteristics in measurement equipment as the first step to solve the influence of the electrode structures on the intensity of ultraviolet rays radiation. Consequently, it is clarified that the differences in electrode structures have an effect on luminance characteristics. In this paper, we actually made sealed-off panels based on those results, and measured voltage-luminance characteristics. From these results, it is clarified that the present results are equivalent to the previous ones.
