Abstract(in English) | The purpose of this study is to clarify the thermal quenching property of blue phosphors. The temperature dependence of the emission intensities of europium in calcium magnesium silicate (CaMgSi_2O_6 : Eu^<2+>, CMS : Eu^<2+>) and barium magnesium aluminate (BaMgAl_<10>O_<17> : Eu^<2+>, BAM : Eu^<2+>) under the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation were investigated. It was found that the emission intensity at 373K were decreased to 55 % compared with that at 298K for CMS : Eu^<2+> whereas 98% for BAM : Eu^<2+> at 373K. In order to use CMS : Eu^<2+> in plasma display panels, the improvement of its thermal quenching property is needed. Otherwise, the optimization of the panel structure or the discharge method which would ultimately induce a lower temperature at the phosphor layers is required. |
